More people died of pneumonic plague in China

Pneumonic plague has claimed another life in Qinghai Province, northwest China on August 2, bringing the total number of deaths from this deadly infectious disease to two, local media said.

The latest victim is Danzin, 37, who lives in Ziketan City, Qinghai Province, died on August 2. This person is a neighbor of the first victim, a 32-year-old herder who died when the disease was discovered on July 30.

Danzin was hospitalized at 11:00 pm on July 31 after the symptoms of cough and fever were released. 10 other patients with first-episode infection, currently under quarantine, have not shown any signs of cough or fever. Most of the 10 infected people are the first relatives of the victim.

Local health authorities continue to disinfect the area and monitor those who have close contact with patients.

The city of Ziketan is 3,000 square meters and has a population of 10,000. The whole city has been quarantined since the victims of pneumonic plague died.

According to WHO, a person can die within 24 hours after being infected with pneumonic plague.

Pneumonic plague is caused by the same bacteria that cause bubonic plague, created. The bubonic plague (the most common form of bubonic plague) known as black death killed about 25 million people in Europe in the Middle Ages.
