In January this year, the Koriyama City Board of Education instructed elementary schools, junior high schools and kindergartens to check the level of radioactivity in the air at the sewers and fences on campus.

The board of education directives do not mention school grounds and classrooms because these sites are regularly checked for radiation levels.

Reports submitted by schools in April show that at least 14 elementary schools, middle schools and 5 kindergartens have 'hotspots' , where cumulative radiation levels amount to 20 millisievert / year or more than 3.8 micorosievert / hour.

At the beginning of the school year (April), the school board removed restrictions on students playing in the schoolyard for more than 3 hours / day, which was imposed after the nuclear crisis occurred in March last year.

Speaking at the press conference, Tokiko Noguchi, the head of the civil society, said that "many hotspots in schools have high levels of radiation" and asked the city education council to restore the restrained order. .
