Myanmar: before and after the terrible storm

At the beginning of the week, Nargis storms across Myanmar, Southeast Asia, has killed about 60,000 people (so far). NASA's Terra satellite recorded the area before and after the storm.

In these two photos, the picture on April 15 shows that the boundary is very clear between the blue of the sea and the grass green of the mainland.

In the following picture, the hurricane swept into the shore in the mouth of the Irrawaddy River (lower left) and swept to the northeast, flooding the entire southern region and blurring the blue of the Martaban Gulf.

NASA said photos like this will support recovery efforts because it shows where an emergency focus is needed.

Nargis stormed into western Myanmar on May 4 with winds of up to 190km / h. Storm dragged waves of waves that swept away villages and towns where it passed. Five areas with 24 million people were declared disaster areas.
