New flying saucer was born in America
A flying saucer worked really, but not from the universe, but from Florida, USA.
Subrata Roy, a professor of mechanics at the University of Florida, is trying to register the invention of his design on a conical, rotatable aircraft that he calls WEAV - a type of electric aircraft. word without wings.
Prototype is set with several advantages. It can float in the sky and take off vertically. Because there are no moving parts, WEAV has a high degree of certainty. And although the battery model is only 15 cm wide, Roy believes it is possible to build a large spacecraft in such a style.

Roy applied his experience in research on plasma powered by the US Air Force to develop a propulsion system for typical flying devices. And this is how it works: Electrodes coated on the surface of the flying disc will ionize the surrounding air, creating plasma that surrounds the device. An electric current sent through this plasma creates a force not only enough to lift and move the flying disc, but also to help it stabilize in windy conditions.
In addition to intending to provide ground-based surveillance equipment, Roy also looked further, to generations of spacecraft that could operate in other atmospheres, such as Saturn's Titan moon. However, the line from the idea to the actual production may not be so flat.
