New invention for cataract patients

Bobby Qureshi, a consultant and ophthalmologist at London Eye Hospital, said that three-focus lens (trifocal) implants will produce immediate results. This lens has three focal points for near, far and intermediate vision.

He said that this is the right choice for people who are nearsighted and active, such as playing sports. Accordingly, patients will receive local anesthesia. A state-of-the-art computer will control the laser to cut the natural lens in the eye into small pieces, and make a small incision in the eye. Small pieces of natural lens will be removed from the eye, then the three-focus lens will be implanted into the eye through the incision.

All processes take only a few minutes. The patient can work again the next day. They will see a significantly improved vision the following day, but it may also be earlier.

As the brain gradually adjusts for about 2 weeks, the patient's vision improves even more. This result will last a lifetime.
