Since then, in 2009 a group of scientists in the Department of Breeding and Breeding, Southern Institute of Fruit Fruits selected and conducted a sexual hybrid between dragon fruit variety Long Dinh 1 and dragon fruit white gut Cho Gao. After the evaluation of the quality of promising hybrid and hybrid dragon fruit fruit varieties for cultivation and use value trials, the group has released the first variety of purple-fleshed pink dragon fruit in Vietnam.

Scientists have put 11 hybrids into a field trial in three provinces of Long An, Tien Giang and Ba Ria-Vung Tau compared with two local varieties. After nearly two and a half years of growing trials, the purple-fleshed pink dragon fruit variety 5 gave satisfactory results because of the higher yield than the control dragon fruit samples (nearly 22 tons / ha), namely: high 5-10% more than Long Dinh 1 red dragon fruit (nearly 19 tons / ha) and 30-40% compared to Binh Thuan white flesh dragon fruit (over 13 tons / ha).
