More than 100,000 new products under the Biotechnology Research and Development Research Program (KC.04), 2001-2005, have been transferred to production. The above results were announced at the summarizing conference of the program, which took place in the morning of June 28 in Hanoi.

One of the typical topics is successful preparation of Cefotaxim sodium , third generation antibiotics to treat many dangerous infections today.

This new type of antibiotic meets international standards, was first prepared by the Pharmaceutical Corporation in Vietnam, from the source of domestic microorganisms.

Another topic is the isolation and selection of many indigenous strains of microorganisms capable of strongly decomposing special defense wastes , which are difficult to decompose such as TNT, nitroglycerin . This KC.04-10 scientist has produced 5 microbial compositions with strong decomposition effect for a short time.

The above topics are in 34 projects and 13 pilot projects to build biotechnology (biotechnology) potentials, apply modern biotechnology to serve agriculture, health and biotechnology industry development. of Vietnam, period 2001-2005. It is known that there have been 22 inventions and useful solutions from the registered and protected KC.04 Program.

According to Prof. Dr. Nguyen Quang Thach of the Program Management Board, the program KC.04 in the period of 1001-2005 has changed in the direction of modern biotechnology, taking gene technology as the core. Proportion of topics using molecular biological methods accounted for 53.19%. This transformation is very important, allowing Vietnamese biotechnology to update with modern biotechnology of the world.

Prof. Dr. Tran Duy Quy, Program Manager, said that KC.04 program has closely followed all social changes. The annual tasks of the Program are topical, addressing pressing issues of society at the present time such as foot and mouth disease, dengue fever, acute respiratory infections, determined identity of martyrs' remains .

However, Prof. Quy admitted that there are some shortcomings that KC.04 Program needs to serve in the coming period. That is, there are no breakthrough projects on science and technology or products for agriculture and forestry, protection of health and environment. The linkage between research institutions and scientists is still loose, not yet creating a synergy to solve topics and projects with high interdisciplinary nature. More results need to be included in applications in key economic and technical sectors of the country.
