The United States adopted a new policy of using space, in which the United States valued freedom in space just as it did at sea and in airspace. This is the first time in the past decade that the United States has made major changes in space policy.

The new law takes effect immediately, allowing the United States the right to intervene if the parties use space for the purpose of attack.

The law responded to concerns in a Pentagon report five years ago, suggesting that technical progress could help the enemy to destroy US satellites.

The unencrypted details that have been published on the Internet identify space vehicles regardless of whether satellites or spies are important to national security.

However, the White House said the policy did not call for the development or deployment of weapons in space.

White House spokesman Tony Snow said there was no change in the strategy.

He talked about space defense differently from space weaponization, and the United States was pleased with this policy.
