Non Nuoc Stone Village is suffering from 'Occupational Disease'
Nearly ten years ago, the life of more than 400 households producing and trading in Non Nuoc fine-art stone village, Ngu Hanh Son district - Da Nang has been greatly improved. In order to exchange material life, the people here have lived together for many years with environmental pollution, but if it is said that comprehensive pollution is not wrong, from noise pollution to air and danger. especially water pollution.
The most dangerous and noisy air, water sources are polluted in Non Nuoc stone village (Photo: VNN) There has never been a full and accurate assessment of the harmful effects of this pollution and The consequences of pollution certainly impact not only at the generation of people living and producing. Every day about 500 tons of stone is put into production, meaning that about 70 kg of dust is released into the air every day, this number is judged too small compared to reality. Not to mention the amount of dust from crushing stone pressed into products, from hundreds of trucks into the village.
20% of stone workers suffer from deafness and occupational diseases, while people living with the sound of drilling, cutting, chiseling, sawing . have become a habit whether they like it or not. There is no exact figure about the impact of noise on the health of Non Nuoc residents, but its harmful effects have been seen.
Acid is an indispensable accessory for smoothing stones. Pruritus, limb ulcers are the visible consequences, but the dangerous thing is that acid seeps into the dust in the air, and according to the dangerous, long-term breathing effects to the body.
Every day about 700 liters of acid are put into use. There are up to 25,000 liters of acid per year according to the water infiltrating into the ground. While nearly 100% of people here still use well water in every activity.
Mr. Nguyen Dinh Thu, vice chairman of Ngu Hanh Son District People's Committee, said: "The current dust and noise are not able to overcome. We are asking the city program owner for the location of rock gathering and sawing to avoid noise, and dust only stops at shielding ".
A project on planning for villages to reduce environmental pollution was approved in 2003, the project was started frantically. Nearly 3 years have passed, the project has just started a short road. People still live together with rock dust, living with noise and using polluted water as ever.
