The team found the first vestiges of 50 to 75 burial holes under sand dunes. According to Amy Schott, a member of the group, the village used to be home to about 125 people from the Basketmaker period - the time when the local American community in the region began planting food crops and establishing settlements.

Based on the ceramics at the excavation site, Schott identified the village once existed between 200 and 700 AD.
