Optical disc has a capacity of 100 times DVD
With the ability to store up to 500 GB of data, General Electric's technology far surpasses Blu-ray (currently 25 - 30 GB) but still ensures the size of DVD discs on the market.
The superiority of capacity is due to the optical disc developed by General Electric (GE), which stores micro-holographic information instead of just on the surface of the disk.
Although still in testing phase, GE believes that the technology will receive great support because the hardware and format are developed similar to the existing optical storage method, thus compatible with CD, DVD and Blu-ray technology.
3D technology is one of the leading research objectives of the storage industry and GE believes their success will contribute to bringing 3D technology to life in everyday life.
However, they will need to cooperate with hardware manufacturers if they want to disseminate this technology worldwide.
