People can eat food grown from Mars

Scientists at Wageningen University, the Netherlands, said on June 24, four types of plants that are normally cultivated and grown on the type of soil taken from Mars can be used as food service. for human needs.

Radishes, beans, rye and tomatoes are grown on soils taken from the Red Planet. Research results indicate that these four crops contain heavy metals - harmful substances under "danger levels".

Senior ecologist Wieger Wamelink said: "The research results are very remarkable and extremely promising."

"We can eat radish, beans, rye and tomatoes grown from Mars, and I'm curious how they taste , " Mr. Wamelink replied with amusement.

This research project of Wageningen has been developed since 2013 with a growing list of 10 plants.

Currently, the other six plants, including potatoes, are still being studied and tested.

However, there are still some concerns that plant varieties can absorb heavy metals like cadmium, copper and lead.

NASA and Mars One have planned to bring people to Mars in the next decade, to build human territory on the Red Planet. In order to do this, people need to find a source of food on Mars and the most practical plan is to plant them.

"It is important to test as many varieties as possible, to ensure that Martian settlers can find different food sources on their own," said Wamelink.
