The Kien Giang Provincial People's Committee and the Ministry of Fisheries have also identified marine protected areas that will protect biodiversity better.
According to the above proposal, the marine protected area is zoned on an area of 10,000ha, including 13 small and medium islands. Of these, 8,000ha are proposed to establish a controlled economic development zone, mainly high-quality eco-tourism; 2,000ha is a core zone, strictly protected, including six islands yet or very few people live: Hon Vang, Hon Xuong (Hon Mong island), Hon Buom, Hon May Thu, Hon Ga Thi and Dau dau.
The results of field surveys by experts show that the An Thoi archipelago (Phu Quoc) has 124ha coral reef area; Seagrass carpet 250ha, very diverse in species composition. These two marine ecosystems form a unique habitat for An Thoi sea. This is also the cradle of many aquatic species that grow and develop. In addition, this is also the breeding and residence area of some rare and precious species such as dugong, dolphins, sea turtles .
