Predict the side effects of pharmaceuticals
The SEA computer model of UCSF pharmacy uses the similarity of each drug's form with thousands of other compounds to predict possible side effects.
Besides the therapeutic effect, medicines also bring unwanted side effects.
Therefore, a team of researchers from the UCSF School of Medicine, Novartis Institute of Biomedical Research (NIBR) and SeaChange Pharmaceuticals have developed a computer model that can predict negative side effects of many types. Current medication. This software not only saves a lot of money but also speeds up research time and does not use a lot of animals in toxicology testing.
The SEA computer model of UCSF pharmacy uses the similarity of each drug's form with thousands of other compounds to predict possible side effects. The theory of SEA technology is protein's relevance to pharmacological effects and it is also effective for exploration of newly patented pharmaceuticals.
Scientists in the research group tested and displayed 656 types of drugs circulating on the market to predict via one of 73 proteins with the NIBR Institute's statistical method. The computer model identified 1,241 side effects of which there were 348 drug interaction effects recorded from Novartis database. Besides, managing the forecasting of side effects only takes half the time compared to normal because the computer model can solve hundreds of compounds at the same time.
According to Michael Kaiser, SeaChange co-founder, the computer model is a parallel measure, not eliminating the effects of animal tests, but it will help reduce animal use and increase test results.
