On the afternoon of August 6, Da Nang City Forest Protection Department said that it had mobilized Mr. Nguyen Van Vien (57 years old, Hoa An ward, Cam Le district) to voluntarily hand over a white cheeked gibbon, Siki, with a scientific name. Nomascus leucogenys siki, belongs to IB group (endangered, precious and rare forest animals).

Earlier in August 2013, authorities discovered Mr. Vien raised the upper gibbon, male, weighing about 3kg. According to Mr. Vien, he brought this individual from Laos when he was a child, raising him for 3 years and did not know this was a rare animal.

Being mobilized by the authorities, the owner of Siki white-cheeked crested gibbons made a voluntary application to submit to the Danang Forest Protection Department. Currently this gibbon was brought to Cuc Phuong National Park for rescue before being released to the natural environment.
