Research on flies paves the way for new ways of healing in humans
Scientists sequenced the entire home fly genome and declared their discovery will help discover new ways to treat human diseases.

>>> Common points between people, flies and worms
Flies, the scientific name of Musca domestica, are considered to be a serious source of infection. They often come in contact with animal carcasses, garbage as well as rancid substances containing bacteria, viruses and other pathogens such as worms and parasites.
Flies also like to beat some food like us. And because they're so good at avoiding human discovery, they have a lot of opportunities to land on our food or even our bodies.
Researchers found that flies can contain about 100 pathogens, including pathogens that can cause blindness. This is because, they eat liquids or semi-liquid, such as feces. The absorption of continuous food also means that flies need to release large amounts of manure along with the pathogens they carry, wherever they land in a few seconds.
However, unlike humans, flies do not get sick because of their filthy lifestyle. Dr. Jeff Scott and colleagues from Cornell University (USA) have begun to understand why the fly has that ability and whether it can be used for human benefit.
First, the team sequenced the genomes of six female flies, creating a long chain of 691 Mb genes. They then compared it to the 123 Mb genome of the fruit fly, scientific name Drosophila melanogaster, to detect unique DNA portions in flies.
Experts found that flies contain more immune genes than fruit flies. Their immune genes are also more diverse. All of these characteristics are thought to help them be protected from numerous pathogens that reside in the body.
Dr. Jeff Scott and colleagues published their study in Genome Biology. They claim that their research results can help us treat human waste and improve the living environment, and open up the prospect of the introduction of new therapeutic methods for people to rely on. Immunity of flies.
