Revealing the secret of building the Forbidden City
The Forbidden City of central Beijing today is the palace of the last two Chinese feudal dynasties, Ming and Qing dynasties.
Previously, the Forbidden City used to be the palace of many Chinese emperors, it was built about 500 years ago by giant rocks of up to 200 tons, these stones were transported by sleds. on wet roads by taking water from dug wells up to 500 meters deep.
The Forbidden City of central Beijing today is the palace of the last two Chinese feudal dynasties, Ming and Qing dynasties. It was built in the 15th and 16th centuries by giant stones and carved with a pattern of flowers. Among them are rocks weighing over 220 tons, even more than 330 tons.
Many of these rocks were taken from a quarry far away from where Cam Cam Thanh was built to 70km. Based on the fact that Chinese people have used wheels (with spokes) from about 1,500 BC, researchers often think that such huge rocks are transported to the construction site by wheels.
The Forbidden City was built 500 years ago.
However, through translating an ancient document dating back 500 years, Jiang Li, an engineer at Beijing University of Science and Technology, discovered something completely different. Accordingly, a mass of 123 tons and 9.5m in length was transferred to the Forbidden City on a sled by the dragons during more than 28 days in the winter of 1557. This discovery has given an important clue. proved that sled cars had previously helped transport stone to build royal palaces.
At the same time, ancient documents revealed that construction workers often dig 500 meters deep wells or get water from other sources to pour into lubricating roads for stone sleds to move easily. Researchers believe that pulling a 123 ton stone with a sledge can reach an average speed of 8cm / s. At the same time to pull such a heavy stone to Forbidden City requires less than 50 men, much less than 1,500 people if dragged on dry roads without water slipping.
All research results were presented by engineers Li and colleagues Haosheng Chen in the Journal of Proceedings on November 4, 2013 of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
The structure is made of large stones weighing up to 200 tons, even up to 300 tons.
Instead of using the wheels, the dragger used the sleds to bring these giant stones from the quarry to the Forbidden City.
