Roche recalled anti-HIV drugs
Roche Pharmaceutical Group of Switzerland has announced the recall of the anti-HIV and powdered Viracept tablet in Europe and many other countries in the world except the US, Canada and Japan.
Cause, Roche has received numerous reports of several batches of Viracept 250 mg with a strange smell. The test results were later found in these strange smelling pills containing higher levels of methane sulfonic acid ethylester . To ensure the safety of patients, Roche decided to withdraw this entire batch of Viracept.
Roche also requires patients taking Viracept to contact their doctor for instructions on taking alternative medicine.
Viracept is an antiviral drug first produced by Roche in 1998. Like other anti-HIV drugs, Viracept is not effective in treating HIV or AIDS, but can help control it. Viracept is also effective for some other HIV-related infectious diseases. The drug includes tablets (25 mg or 250 mg) and powder form.
