The project is worth about 9.9 billion rubles (303 million USD) under a contract signed with the Russian National Atomic Energy Corporation (Rosatom) in February 2009.

So far, Baltiysky Zavod shipyard has completed the installation of 8 generators for this project.

According to Russian officials, the need for stable energy sources in remote and difficult areas is the driving force for the creation of this unique project.

Currently, a series of countries, including developed countries, are interested in this project but are all waiting for Russia to build the first test plant.

Under the previously announced plan, the Baltiysky Zavod shipyard will complete the construction of the first floating nuclear power plant in the fourth quarter of 2012.
