Russia has begun mass production of a mobile bomb shelter that can protect people from the harmful effects of radiation for 48 hours in the event of a nuclear attack, Interesting Engineering reported on November 20. With a capacity of 54 people, the KUB-M protects people from explosions, shrapnel, debris, chemicals, and even fire, according to the research institute of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations .

According to Reuters, each KUB-M shelter consists of two modules along with a technical compartment, with the ability to add more modules when needed. They are also designed to operate in Russia's cold permafrost regions. The KUB-M can be easily transported on trucks and connected to a water supply.

"The portable shelter is a multifunctional structure that provides protection for people against various threats including natural disasters and man-made accidents. This is an important step towards improving the safety of residents," the institute said.
