Two years ago, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev was sarcastic about the " lack of progress in supercomputing development ." In his speech it was also ironic that a large number of businesses did not mention officially. any company, don't know what supercomputers are.

Medvedev was very interested in American high-tech achievements. Last year, Russian President had a visit to Silicon Valley. Here he visited major companies such as Google, Twitter, Apple and Cisco, having a talk at Stanford University about the need to increase technology investment in Russia.

Medvedev also visited Moscow National University to see supercomputers built by T-Platforms, a high-performance computer manufacturing company in Moscow. The T-Platforms system located at Moscow National University is the 13th most powerful supercomputer in the world in the world's 500 most powerful supercomputing rankings.

Currently the world's fastest supercomputer is K Computer of Japan. K Computer has reached more than 8 million billion calculations per second, far exceeding the top supercomputer to win the title last November - Tianhe-1A of the National Supercomputing Center in Tianjin (China ). Tianhe-1A only achieves 2.6 million billion calculations per second.

Steve Conway, an analyst at research firm IDC, said President Medvedev is calling for investment in high-performance computing systems. In 5 years, Russian products cannot compete in the world market. Therefore, the Government is keen to promote this sector.

Meanwhile, T-Platforms is pushing its supercomputers in Russia and selling them to Europe, as well as hoping to break into the US market someday.
