Seagate Barracuda 750GB

Seagate took a step closer to pushing storage capacity up to Terabyte numbers by launching a 3.5-inch hard drive with a capacity of 750GB.

The Barracuda 750GB hard drive (7200 rpm) has been shipped to computer manufacturers and is expected to be available soon. The new product with "orthogonal recording" technology allows storing more data on a fixed space.

With the new technology, Seagate's storage capacity has been pushed to a new record - 750GB. So far, the largest storage capacity has remained at 500GB (Seagate and Hitachi hard drives). New product (exact name is Barracuda 7200.10) sold for 590USD.

According to the University of California's "How Much Information", 750GB is equivalent to the data of all books filled with over 750 large trucks; or equal to the data contained in books made from 37,500 trees.
