Smoke from Indonesia threatens Malaysia

Air pollution in Malaysia has skyrocketed due to forest fires from Indonesia in recent days.

Malaysian officials reported smoke from Indonesian wildfires caused an increase in the level of air pollution in the 29 regions of Selangor state. In port city Klang pollution level has exceeded the safety for human health.

' Smoke flies from forest fires in Riau province on Sumatra island. Fires erupted by people burning forests for palm trees , 'said Deni Haryanto, Indonesian fire control official, said.

Haryanto said officials mobilized 120 firefighters to put out fires.

Fires in Riau province of Indonesia occur on peat forests. So fire can burn for days and release large amounts of carbon into the air. Even if the fire on the ground is extinguished, fire can continue to burn underground and flare up.

The Indonesian government banned the practice of burning fields, fields and fire, but most people ignored the ban because the enforcement of the law was weak. Scientists say Indonesia is the third largest producer of emissions in the world. Most of the emissions this country produces come from forest fires.
