According to UPI, a group of biologists at the Center for Scientific Research of the Slovenian Academy of Arts and Sciences (ZRC SAZU), found a new discovery about the mating behavior of Darwin's bark spider .

During fieldwork, biologists observed that males of Darwin's bark spider (Caerostris darwini) in Madagascar often secreted saliva on their female genitals. This oral relationship is just one of several unusual mating behaviors that the research team discovered and published in Scientific Reports yesterday.

In addition to oral sex, Darwin's bark spider also shows acts of killing mates after mating and cutting off the female's genitals. Previous research has shown that their webs are the largest in nature and that silk produced by animals is also the toughest. The Darwin bark of males is 14 times smaller than the female.

"Oral sex is a mandatory mating behavior in this species because every male performs salivary manipulation before, between and after mating with a total record of up to 100 ", Matjaž Gregorič, research assistant at ZRC SAZU, said.

Although uncommon, oral sex behavior has been observed in monkeys, lemurs, dwarf chimpanzees, hyenas, ghouls, lions, dolphins and bats, but very rare in spiders.

According to the hypothesis given by the research team, male spiders perform behaviors as a way of conquering their mates and supporting premature babies, through proving their sexual ability and creating a chemical environment that helps lift. High sperm survivability.
