Huli Wigmen tribe, Papua New Guinea
Residence: Tari Plateau, Papua New Guinea
This tribe's strange hat is made from their own hair. The tribe has 40,000 people living in isolation, the men often pick up wig manes to wear or sell to others. They painted their faces yellow, held an ax, wore leafy aprons and dangled braids to intimidate other tribes. Traditionally, they often dance to imitate the birds of paradise on the island.
Dogon tribe, West Africa
Place of residence: Mali, West Africa
As usual, the men in this tribe use ropes to climb the dangerous Bandiagara cliffs to pick up pigeon and bat droppings. They then sold them to the Tellem fertilizer facility and artifact workshop. More than 400,000 Dogon people live in about 700 small villages located precariously on a 200km cliff road.
Chimbu tribe, Papa New Guinea
Place of residence: Chimbu Province, Papua New Guinea
This tribe dresses up as a skeleton and then dances to threaten other tribes when a territorial dispute occurs. They live in a very remote area where little is known about their real life. People only know that they live in temperate climates in rugged mountain valleys ranging from 1,600 to 2,400m high. According to custom, they live in in separate houses for men and women, however today they live together like family.
Nenet tribe, Siberia
Place of residence: Yamal Peninsula, Siberia
The tribe of about 10,000 nomads is quite healthy - they move 300,000 reindeer on a migration distance of 1,100km around an area half the size of France, in temperatures down to minus 50 degrees Celsius. They move on snowmobiles. Despite discovering oil and gas reserves in the 1970s, they have limited contact with the outside world.
Asaro men
Residence: Goroka, Papua New Guinea
These men covered their bodies with mud because they thought their shapes were like spirits and could scare other tribes in the area. Some of these ethnic groups have lived scattered on the plateau for more than a millennium, isolated because of the harsh terrain and were not discovered until 75 years ago.
Himba herding tribe, Namibia
Place of residence: Namibia, Africa
The semi-nomadic Himba tribe lives scatteredly in northwestern Namibia and southern Angola. They live in conical tents made of mud and dung. They burn fires 24 hours a day to pay homage to their god Mukuru. According to tribal customs, whether a person has more or less cattle will show whether he or she is rich or poor. The Himba people like to eat goats in their meals.
Kazakh tribes hunt with eagles
Place of residence: Bayan-Olgii Province, Mongolia
They used eagles to hunt foxes, marmots and wolves. They dressed in caught furs, boys from 13 years old could carry an eagle. This semi-nomadic tribe has migrated around the Altai Mountains since the 19th century. They now number about 100,000 people, but only about 250 eagle hunters remain.
Bayaka, Central African Republic
Habitat: Southwestern Rainforest, Central African Republic (CAR)
The Bayaka tribe lives on the 'spirit of the forest' , they are very knowledgeable about herbs, they use their own language and hunting traditions. They are one of many tribes in this remote part of Africa, with a population of half a million people. Elders of this tribe said they cannot pass on traditional skills to their children because they are old and weak and cannot go into the deep forest.
