Strong earthquake in China

The Chinese Seismological Network discovered four strong earthquakes this morning (March 21) in Yu Tian district, west of Xinjiang.

The strongest earthquake reached 7.3 richter. This is also the earliest earthquake occurred around 7:30 am (Vietnam time). Three smaller earthquakes with a magnitude of 5 - 5.2 magnitudes ensued then between 8am and 9am.

There is no information about the number of casualties or damage.

Xinjiang has a sparse population, mostly Muslims. Ngoc Dien District (230 km from southeast of Hoa Dien City) has a population of 2.3 million people, mostly Uighur farmers.

China has a few earthquakes a year, but mostly in sparsely populated areas and no casualties.
