Styrofoam boxes should not be used at temperatures higher than 70 degrees Celsius
In the latest samples of foam boxes tested (including those with Chinese characters found in Hanoi), the polystyren contamination - box making material - is below the allowed threshold of 8,000-10,000 times.
Consumers should only use a foam box once and not use it at temperatures above 70 degrees Celsius
Informed by Mr. Nguyen Cong Khan, Director of the National Department of Food Safety and Hygiene (Ministry of Health), on the afternoon of April 5.
Besides, signs of metal residue are also at safety threshold. Bacteriological tests (ecoli, staphylococci .) in the styrofoam box are negative.
However, Mr. Khan also recommended, to ensure safety with this product, consumers should only use it once, not use at temperatures higher than 70 degrees Celsius, especially in the conditions of oil and fat. .
In addition, he noted that only foam box products of clear origin are used. However, the fact of surveying some clues selling foam boxes in Hanoi shows that most of these boxes do not write the origin.
Also today, the Hanoi Steering Committee for Food Safety and Hygiene requires districts, towns and cities in the area to strengthen inspection of food packaging. In particular, strictly handle the cases of using food packaging, especially foam boxes containing rice and food without origin, failing to ensure food safety and hygiene conditions.
