Katie Piper ( right ) and Dr. Jawad, the leader of the group of doctors, successfully applied new techniques in acid-faced face surgery.

Piper's face was completely disfigured after her ex-boyfriend Daniel Lynch hired a man to attack her. The amount of sulfuric acid melted Piper's four layers of skin. This is the worst case of acid burns her doctors have ever met.

Eighteen months later, she recovered well thanks to the treatment of the Burns Department at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital (England).

Dr. Jawad's treatment involves the use of alternative skin made of collagen and elastin called matriderm . Substitute skin is like a mold or substrate that promotes the reception of transplanted skin of real skin.

In the past, the method of using this skin mold only to improve the appearance of old burns, but never used in patients with new wounds.

Dr. Jawad had to consult many surgeries around the world on this method. According to him, facial surgery is complicated because patients need to keep their facial expression ability after surgery. The visual methods used in the past do not help the face express expressions.

A layer of leather with A4 size costing 2,000 pounds is shaped according to Piper's face. Later, the surgeons used a skin graft taken from the lower back to place and sew into this skin mold.

Burn expert and surgeon Mohammad Ali Jaward said he had conducted the same method for at least 15 patients. Doctors in France, Spain and Italy also started using this method after Dr. Jawad's success.
