Suffering causes outbreaks of salmonella in the US?

The US health agency has just advised people not to eat papaya from Texas distributor Agromod Produce, after the company's product is suspected of being involved in the outbreak of salmonella in the country's 23 states.

According to the latest statistics of the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), there have been 97 cases of salmonella infection detected across the United States, of which 10 patients have been hospitalized for treatment. Texas and Illinois have the most salmonella infections, especially children under 5 and women.

Texas State Distributor Agromod Produce has recalled their papaya products, which were imported from Mexico. The FDA said it is also working with papaya distributors and health authorities in Mexico to find out why papaya products in the country are infected with salmonella.

Fox News news agency reported that distribution company Agromod Produce announced its recall of papaya products from the end of last week. The company also said its papaya products are available throughout the United States and Canada. Only papaya products recorded on production date before July 23 will be revoked.

People who eat salmonella foods often have symptoms of diarrhea, fever and abdominal pain in the first few days. Products are easy to contain salmonella including canned meat and other frozen foods.

Last year, salmonella outbreaks in the US caused 2,300 hospitalizations and 29 deaths. The United States had to announce the recall of nearly 500 million eggs after discovering this food was a source of salmonella.
