'Supermoon' will appear in mid-October

Astronomy enthusiasts will be able to admire the third supermoon of the year on October 17.

According to the Hanoi Astronomical Society (HAS), the supermoon can be easily seen from Vietnam at 6:28 p.m. on October 17. At this time, the Moon will be on the opposite side of the Earth and its face will be fully illuminated, making it easy for people to see a 'super huge' Moon.

The supermoon can be easily seen from Vietnam at 18:28, October 17.

This supermoon was called the Hunter's Moon by early Native American tribes because it was the time of year when leaves were falling and hunting season was entering. This moon has also been called the Traveler's Moon and the Blood Moon .

According to the definition of Richard Nolle, the father of the concept of supermoon, in 2024 there will be 4 supermoons taking place on August 19, September 18, October 17 and November 15.

On supermoon nights, you will see the moon in the sky with a bright disk that is about 8% larger and about 15% brighter than a normal full moon night. Therefore, even when observing the moon normally, you can still notice this difference.

Besides the appearance of the supermoon, this October, astronomy lovers can also admire two meteor showers: Draconids and Orionids.

The Draconids meteor shower will be visible on October 7. This is a minor meteor shower with a rate of only about 10 meteors per hour and the best time is in the early evening.

The Orionids is an average meteor shower that produces up to 20 meteors per hour at its peak. It is produced by dust particles left behind by Halley's comet, which has been known and observed since ancient times.
The shower runs annually from October 2 to November 7. This year's shower peaks on the night of October 21 and the morning of October 22. Best viewing will be after midnight .
