Sahara Desert is a symbol of hot and dry sun. But in the middle of that dry land, fresh lakes appeared.

The driest desert Where is the earth? The truth is that it is Antarctica. But if the cold land is not taken into account, the new Sahara is the name we all think of.

Indeed, the Sahara desert is an arid realm. This world's largest desert only receives less than 10cm of rain each year. But believe it, the photo below is done in the middle of the arid land we are talking about.

Ubari oasis - one of the most beautiful oases in the Middle East.

In the midst of the driest place, there exists a place full of green trees and freshwater lakes. It is Ubari - one of the most beautiful oases in the Middle East.

The Sahara is not exactly a dry place as we think

According to historians, hundreds of thousands of years ago, the Sahara was still greened, with an extremely diverse ecosystem and aquatic life. But some climate events from a few thousand years ago made the rain no longer fall, the water on the surface evaporated. The entire area has been covered by sand, becoming a devastating desert like we are seeing today.

Who would have expected this land to be in the desert.

However, the green here does not completely disappear. Beneath the sand are huge rivers that flow underground, rising to the ground in some places. These places are still rich in sandy soil, plants fully developed, forming a closed ecosystem in the desert. Those are oases, and Ubari is one of them.

And in fact, if you say the Sahara is a dry place, it is not true, because this place is not only an oasis. With underground rivers flowing from Mount Atlas, inside the desert there are at least 200,000 square kilometers of oases, accounting for more than 2% of the total area.

In addition, some areas of the desert are gradually shrinking thanks to human irrigation work. For example, Egypt, the surrounding desert areas of the Nile almost changed because of this.

Talking about the Ubari oasis, it is located in the Targa valley, between the Messak Sattafat plateau and the Idhan Ubari sand dunes. The average temperature here often exceeds 40 degrees Celsius, the annual rainfall here is also extremely low, even for decades without a rain drop.

But thanks to the rich water from underground rivers, the amount of water in the lake is almost never depleted, at least for the moment.

However, one notable point is that although the Ubari oasis is dubbed "the most beautiful Middle East" , the water here cannot be taken. More precisely, not all oases have water to drink, because most of them are salty lakes .

So clear, but I can't touch it!

Not to mention, Ubari lake water also contains some impurities that are not good for the human body, so it is still advised that visitors should not swim and drink water here.
