The common five-finger structure in mammals may be due to a common ancestor, but experts have yet to find the exact reason.

It is not uncommon for children to be born with fingers or toes. This mutation is called polydactyly, the rate of 1/500 children will suffer from this abnormality.

A boy in India broke the world record after being born with a total of 34 fingers and toes. The previous record belongs to the Chinese baby with 15 fingers and 16 toes.
