At present, the Mozambique Government has issued a red alert to the southern and central regions of the country.

Meanwhile, experts predict the town of Chockwe is likely to suffer heavy floods as the water levels in the town's Limpopo and Inkomati rivers are rising. International organizations are also urgently preparing for relief activities in the worst case.

According to statistics, at least 35 people have died from floods that have risen to alarming levels since the rainy season began in October 2012 in the South African country.

A place where 9 river basins are concentrated, coastal areas of Mozambique often suffer severe floods due to heavy rains causing high water levels in rivers.

Previously, in 2000, the country also suffered heavy economic consequences due to devastating floods that killed about 800 people.
