Health authorities are watching passengers suspecting Ebola infection at five international airports, Suvarnabhumi, Don Mueang, Chiang Mai, Phuket and Hat Yai.
Ebola is a terrifying infectious disease caused by Ebola virus. Scientists first discovered Ebola virus in 1976 in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Later, it attacked further countries to the east like Uganda and Sudan. The virus is named after the river where it was first discovered.
The incubation period can last from two days to 3 weeks and the diagnosis is difficult. So far, Ebola has mainly appeared in Africa, although another strain has appeared in the Philippines.
Despite international efforts, the Ebola virus is still spreading at great speed. Up to now, this is the worst Ebola pandemic in history. It broke out in Guinea and is raging in four African countries. Experts report mortality rates when Ebola is up to 90%. The Ebola epidemic has been considered by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a global emergency.
