Thailand: Floodwaters attack wildlife parks

Floodwaters have invaded the Safari World wildlife park in Bangkok, Thailand, pushing thousands of animals, with many rare animals, into danger.

Floodwaters flooded Safari World and flooded this wild park half last Tuesday when the upstream flood gate Klong Sam Wa rose 1 meter from 0.8m. The reason is that angry people blocked a route.

The water level is inundated in the medium-sized park
about 50cm, but there is a place flooded up to 1m.

Litti Kewkacha, deputy director of Safari World, said the floodwaters submerged the entire Safari Park area, accounting for 50% of the park, while the Underwater Park, which accounted for 50% of the rest, was underwater.

'Most animals in Safari Park have been moved to dry land. However, our main focus is in rare animals, like 120 giraffes and more than 20 whales and dolphin dolphins , 'Litti said.

He also said Safari World is one of the world's largest parks of giraffes.

Safari World estimates that flood damage so far has fallen between 100-150 million baht, as the number of visitors to the area has dropped by nearly 80%.
