At first, the location of the discovery made the team think that this was the cream used for treatment or etiquette. However, detailed research reveals the material of the ice cream box is animal fat, starch and tin color , indicating that this is a colored face cream of the Romans .

The face cream is made of decorative tin box 6cm high, 5cm wide and is of good quality that can rival the current production cosmetics. When the archaeological group opened the ice cream box, they were almost shocked by the smell of poison gas due to the overdue cream.

This facial cream is more likely to belong to a wealthy woman, or to a temple person. Temples are not only built and used by soldiers, but also serve different social classes and statuses. Researchers are not sure if the owner of the face cream box is Roman or English.

Traditional Roman facial cream is added with lead to create the desired color. Not only lead but tin are also available on the British Isles. The ice cream maker seems to be trying to create a similar cream with local ingredients. The Romans attach great importance to white skin. The discovery of white cream can be a proof that Londoners use Roman culture in more ways than architecture.
