The cave on the Moon will be the astronaut's residence?
The Moon's surface is not only many craters but also many holes. According to NASA, the caves that connect these holes may be a haven for future astronauts.
The Moon's surface is not only many craters but also many holes. According to NASA, the caves that connect these holes may be a haven for future astronauts.
NASA's Moon LRO satellite detected 200 giant holes on the Moon's surface. These holes (precisely called "Moon pits" ) have a diameter of 5 meters to 900 meters, and may have formed when the caves below the Moon's surface collapsed. According to NASA, these caves were formed by giant ancient lava flows.
"A living area placed in the Moon hole - about a few tens of meters below the mouth of the pit - will form a very safe place for astronauts: non-radioactive, non-meteorite, possibly very little dust. , the day / night difference is not so much, " Robert Wagner, one of the researchers at Arizona State University, contributed to the discovery of these Moon holes.
After NASA identified these holes, researchers are hoping to explore them. According to Wagner, the best way would be to put the explorer robot inside the crater.
Currently, Wagner's research team will continue to search for the Moon crater to discover new holes. This will be a difficult process because "On the 25% of the Moon's surface (near the pits), the Sun will never grow high enough so our algorithm works properly".
However, this is still an important finding that could help bring people back to the Moon, and even stay longer in the Moon than before. In March, President Obama said the United States is aiming to bring Mars (and other planets) explorers up to the Moon.
