The discovery of the remains resembles the astronomer Copernicus

A man's remains are found in a church in northern Poland very similar to the characteristics of the famous Renaissance astronomer Nicolas Copernicus, archaeologists excavating at the church said.

The 70-year-old man's remains were dug near the church's altar in Frombork, where Copernicus performed rabbi's rituals.

A police laboratory in Warsaw used the skull to create the virtual face of the man, showing that it resembles the portraits of Copernicus, an important figure in the evolution of science. 17th century with heliocentric theory - the sun is the center of the solar system.

"Our original hypothesis, according to which clergy were buried near the church's altar at this time, was confirmed ," Gassowski said.

Copernicus, born in 1473 - lost 1543, developed heliocentric theory, which considered the orbit of planets around the sun. His most famous work, On the Revolutions of the Heavenly Spheres, was published a few days before his death and in 1616 was condemned by Pope Paul 5 to go against the Bible.
