This finding contradicts the thought of many people who think that when they are far away from their spouses there are often stressful relationships. New research done on romantic couples shows that, when separated and rarely see each other, their feelings become more and more intimate. These couples tend to reveal more about their personal feelings than couples who meet regularly.

According to scientific groups, modern forms of communication such as video chat, text messages, e-mail, social networks help distant couples become close to each other. Dr. Crystal Jiang from Hong Kong University's communications department said that we do not need to be too pessimistic about separation, because spouses are far away from each other, often in close communication and intimacy.

Scientists conduct research in 63 couples from Cornell University, New York, half of whom have long distance relationships and have spent more than 17 months in which some couples live each other with distances up to 6,437km and meet once a month or less.

During a week, couples are asked to fill in their journals, questionnaires to track their relationship. As a result, couples in long distance often have longer conversations, they feel their partners share more thoughts and emotions and thus form a strong bond.

Dr. Crystal Jiang said this was seen as a challenge to help sustainable relationships, create more trust and satisfaction for her partner.
