At least 14 people were killed and more than 200 were injured in the quake that rocked the deep areas of Yunnan province, southwestern China, near the border with Myanmar just before 1pm this afternoon, March 10.

The magnitude 5.4 earthquake, which occurred at 12:58 (local time), with the epicenter located 225km southwest of Dali, Yunnan province, below 34km depth, the US Geological Survey said. .

Meanwhile, the Chinese earthquake agency said the earthquake occurred in Doanh Giang and Van Nam districts, with a magnitude of 5.8, at a depth of 10km. The earthquake caused people all over Doanh Giang to panic.

An official at the earthquake rescue center in Doanh Giang district said at least 14 people were killed and 135 injured. Meanwhile, China's central television station reported the number of injuries of more than 200.

Xinhua quoted local officials as saying that " many houses " were collapsed during the earthquake. According to witnesses, part of a supermarket was buried.
