The first battery powered aircraft in the world

The first dry-cell battery in the world has been successfully tested on July 16 with a flight path of 391.4 meters at an altitude of 5.2 meters.

This unique aircraft was built by Tokyo Institute of Technology and Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. co-fabricated. It works with the 160 AA Oxyride battery system, shaped like a glider with 31 m long wings, weighs 54 kg and has only one seat.

On the first flight, the plane traveled 391.4 meters and then went on to 269.3 meters with only 96 batteries.

"We can calculate that the aircraft will fly longer with just the same amount of battery," a Matsushita spokesman said.
