In the past few years, the scientific community has been thrilled to keep track of the crack that stretches near Petermann's northern tip.
By the beginning of this week, satellites of the US Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) discovered where the crevice existed, along with the ice covering an area of 119 km 2 .

About 4/5 of Greenland territory is covered by a giant thick ice. Petermann Glacier is mostly on land, but there is still a part covering the water like a long ice tongue, and that is where the break happens.
Two years ago, a similar incident happened on the glacier, and this time the alarm rang out among experts.
"It was really terrible," AP quoted Professor Andreas Muenchow at the University of Delaware (USA), one of the first to discover the incident.
'We have data for 150 years and we are witnessing unprecedented changes so far , ' said Professor Andreas.
