The US Geological Survey said the magnitude 5.1 earthquake appeared at 10:24 am on April 17 at a depth of 42km underground, 80km southwest of Banda Aceh province.

Arif Achir, of the Malaysian astronomical and astronomical agency, said: "The epicenter of the sea and the people of Banda Aceh can feel it . " Achir added that there are no tsunami warnings and the earthquake damage has not yet been determined.

An AFP reporter said that the earthquake lasted about 45 seconds, causing people in the legislature and children studying in class to flee.

Also last week, the province of Aceh was shaking violently by two major earthquakes, triggering tsunami warnings in the Indian Ocean region.

With an intensity of 8.6 on the Richter scale, the first of the two earthquakes was as strong as the 2004 earthquake and caused tsunamis that left 170,000 people dead in Aceh.
