The Kazaa network is required to block at least 3,000 keywords
The US court has just ordered the Kazaa peer-to-peer file sharing system not to illegally distribute music and videos of famous singers, including Kylie Minogue, Eminem and Madonna.
Judge Murray Wilcox asked Sharman Networks, the owner of Kazaa, to edit P2P software to block a list of search keywords, mostly artist and song names. This statement is the next step after the victory of September record labels against Kazaa-related individuals and organizations.
The court ordered the new version of the system to be released before December 5, including a keyword filter to prevent users from accessing and downloading pirated files.
Record labels can also update new keywords every 2 weeks. Sharman will have to change the software within 48 hours after receiving the list.
The initial statistics of 10,000 keywords and Tony Bannon, the record firm's lawyers, said the number 3,000 was a " serious shortage ".
