How massive is the Wikipedia open encyclopedia?

American artist Michael Mandiberg has answered this question by calculating the entire content of Wikipedia . The purpose of this project is also to explain in detail about 1 petabyte, equivalent to 1 million gigabytes (GB).

"Books are really useful units of knowledge. We don't know how long it takes people to read 1 Gb or 50Gb of data (equivalent to the amount of information in Wikipedia databases). However, we know how long it will take us to finish reading a book , " Mandiberg said in an interview with CBS News.

If you print all the existing Wikipedia content on paper, we will have all 7,473 books . Mandiberg actually printed 106 of these books and showed the rest by drawing them on a display rack.

You can buy this unique collection for $ 500,000. Although Mandiberg is not too optimistic about being able to sell this collection, he believes that people will want to buy some books, which now cost $ 80 per book.
