Melissa Doubleday, a resident of Aukland, New Zealand, discovered a giant object clinging to the coast of Muriwai on December 10, according to News.com.au.
Doubleday photographed this object called "Muriwai monster" and shared it on Facebook by the local organization Waimauku Area. "At first I thought it was a whale carcass, but when I got close, I found it too strange," Doubleday said.
Doubleday's photo attracts many speculations about the origin of objects, including whale carcasses, furry sea monsters, Christmas trees on Maori aboriginal beaches and boats. However, experts say this is a log drifting full of geese , a crustacean that exists by clinging to hard surfaces along the coast between tides.
Many unusual objects drifted to the coast of New Zealand after the magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck South Island in November, raising the seabed by two meters.
