Seoul National University, South Korea, has just established a committee to investigate the authenticity of Professor Hwang's stem cell research, and is expected to have results in 1-2 weeks.
The investigating committee consists of 10 people, headed by Professor Jung Myung-hee of the University of Medicine. The committee said it would be possible to repeat the experiment if necessary.
Meanwhile, at the press conference after leaving the hospital, Professor Hwang Woo-suk denied doubts about the truthfulness of the study and claimed to have succeeded in creating stem cells. He also said that during the study, there were 6 stem cells lost due to contaminated storage. The team sought to restore stem cells preserved at Mizmedi Hospital, but failed. Later, during the validation process, he noticed a change in stem cell numbers at Mizmedi Hospital.
Professor Hwang said that the results of stem cell research can restore confidence at home and abroad.
