The world's largest floating solar power plant

Japan is planning to build the solar power plant floating on the world's largest water.

In the new project, Japan's Kyocera Group will build a plant based on 50,000 solar-collection modules floating on the reservoir of Yakamura dam. Earlier, they had factories on coastal strips like Kagoshima Nanatsujima.

Discovery News said, the module covering the water surface area is about 180,000m 2 . The plant is estimated to generate more than 15.6 MWh per year, enough to power an average of 4,700 households.

According to the group's estimate, this floating solar power plant will collect enough solar energy from the dam surface, to compensate about 7,800 tons of CO2 emissions each year. The project also includes an education center adjacent to the factory, providing classes for local students, focusing on introducing environmental issues.

"For the first time we researched and developed solar energy in the 1970s, this technology was only feasible for small applications such as street lights, traffic signs and telecommunications stations in mountainous areas. We are constantly researching to apply this energy source to become more popular in society, " said Nobuo Kitamura, senior executive of Kyocera.
