India inaugurates the world's largest solar power plant
India's new plant has a capacity of 648 MW, becoming the world's largest solar power plant today.
India, at the end of November, released a picture of the Kamuth i Solar Power Project , enabling people to view the world's largest solar power plant in Kamuthi, Tamil Nadu, India, according to Futurism.
This is the largest solar power plant in the world today.
The above solar power plant was built in just 8 months with a total cost of US $ 679 million. The plant consists of 2.5 million solar panels, covering an area of more than 10.36 km 2. Its operating capacity is up to 648 MW, capable of supplying electricity to 150,000 households. This is a big step forward for India to bring solar energy to reach more people.
In 2022, India plans to produce solar electricity to supply 60 million households. With the new solar power plant in Kamuthi, India will become the world's third largest solar power producer in 2017, behind only the US and China.
India's potential for solar exploitation is about 5 million kWh per year, with an average of 300 sunny days per year. If building a solar power plant floating on the sea like in Japan, India will get more energy.
