Toyota built a factory that turned cow dung into electricity
This will be a 100% renewable energy and hydrogen fuel plant on the world's first commercial scale.
Toyota Group is planning to build a plant to use to convert electricity and hydrogen fuel.
The Japanese automaker is planning the Tri-Gen project to build a power plant in the port city of Long Beach, California, where it is capable of turning cow dung into electricity, water and water.
This will be a 100% hydrogen fuel production and plant on the first commercial scale in the world. Toyota plans to put the plant into operation from 2020.

It is estimated that the plant can generate 2.35 MW of electricity and 1.2 tons of hydrogen per day, providing enough electricity for 2,350 households and fuels to operate 1,500 hydrogen vehicles. The plant will also be equipped with the world's largest hydrogen fueling station.
"We understand the great potential and efficiency of cutting emissions to society," said Doug Murtha, vice president of Toyota North America's Strategic Planning Division.
Toyota is investing heavily in hydrogen battery technology , currently being used on Mirai models and soon to be large trucks in the Project Portal project.
"Environmental-conscious drivers want new, cleaner transport methods. Hydrogen-powered vehicles like Mirai and other alternative fuel-powered vehicles will meet that demand and create a better future " - message on Toyota's website.
Toyota is aiming to stop producing internal combustion engines by 2040, and cut its carbon emissions by 90% by 2050. The factory producing cow manure is a testament to the their efforts.
